Ryan Wilkes, Principal

As an educator, it has been an honor to work with the amazing students, parents, teachers, and community members of Wimberley for the past 10 years.  Every year comes with new challenges, and every year our school community comes together to find solutions that best serve our students. I look forward to our continued work as a team to give our students the foundation to become engaged citizens and life-long learners. With that said, allow me to tell you a little about my journey that led me to Wimberley I.S.D.

After graduating from Wimberley High School, I entered Texas State University and achieved a degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry.  Soon after graduating, I married my wife, Michelle, who is also a teacher, and I was employed in the healthcare and pharmaceutical industry in the capacity of project manager, consultant, and sales manager. I have always had a passion for teaching, and coaching, and after several years decided to enter an alternative certification program to receive a teaching certificate.

I began my career in education in 2004 at Wimberley High School teaching Chemistry, Pre AP Chemistry, and AP Chemistry, and coaching varsity football, basketball, track, and powerlifting.   Within those four years, we had two kids, JD, now 15 years old, and Mia, who is 11 years old. I then went back into my previous career for six years in order to better provide for my family’s needs at the time.

I did not think I would ever be able to return to my passion of teaching, but fortunately that was not the case.  In 2014, I returned to Wimberley High School where I taught Physics, AP Physics I, AP Physics II, and served as the Senior Class Sponsor/Adviser, Attendance Committee, and UIL Science Coach. Ultimately, my passion for education led me to pursue my Masters degree in Education Leadership at Sul Ross State University, graduating in 2018. We had our third child, Levi, in February, 2018.  I absolutely love what I do and I feel very blessed to serve the community of Wimberley.
